Field note 01
Why camera-free sensing matters in the home
Homes need context, but context should not always require cameras. Many useful product decisions can begin with a quieter question: what changed in the space?
Camera-free sensing creates room for a different kind of ambient technology. Instead of capturing visual detail, the product can focus on broad spatial cues such as presence, movement, rhythm, and change over time.
This matters because the home is not a lab. It is private, variable, and deeply human. A sensing product should respect that context before it asks for trust.
Parallax is being developed around that principle: useful spatial awareness, restrained data collection, and claims that stay grounded in what the system can responsibly validate.
